Title

Ceremonial staff

Physical Chareteristics
The iron rod decorated with brass elements is assigned to the “Lower Niger Bronze Industry”. The original indication of origin “Benin” of the object acquired in 1929 can be questioned. Stylistic elements point to the centuries-old brass and forging tradition on the lower Niger. The figurative representation differs significantly in iconography and style from that in Benin. It is probably a dignity or ceremonial staff of a high dignitary.
